Allergen forged an unprecedented deal with the St. Regis Mohawk tribe in New York State to avoid what is already a loose patent regulation system in the United States, surprising and alarming even some of the most cynical pharmaceutical industry watchdogs and critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tribes like the St. Regis Mohawk are exempt from and operate outside of federal jurisdictions in the United States, including patent rules, because they are sovereign nations.
