Abilify (Aripiprazole) Medication Information:
Uses of Abilify:
Certain mental/mood problems (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome, and irritability associated with autistic disorder) are treated with Abilify.
It can also be used to treat depression in conjunction with other medications. Abilify is an antipsychotic medication (atypical type). It works by assisting in the restoration of the brain's normal chemical balance (neurotransmitters). This medication can help you concentrate and reduce hallucinations. It assists you in thinking more clearly and positively about yourself, feeling less apprehensive, and participating more actively in daily life. It can be used to treat severe mood swings and reduce the frequency with which they occur.
How to use Abilify (Aripiprazole):
Take this medication by mouth once a day, with or without food, as instructed by your doctor. The dosage is determined by your medical condition, treatment response, age, and any other medications you are taking. Please make a list of all the products you use and give it to your doctor and pharmacist (including prescription medications, non-prescription medications, and herbal products). Your doctor may advise you to begin taking this medicine at a low dose and gradually raise it to avoid the chance of adverse effects. Carefully follow your doctor's recommendations.
This medication should be swallowed whole, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Many similar medications (immediate-release tablets) can, however, be divided or crushed. Follow your doctor's instructions for taking this medicine.
If you're taking this medication in liquid form, use a special measuring device/cup to accurately measure the dose. If you use a regular spoon, you cannot get the right dose.
Do not raise your dosage or take this medication more frequently or for longer than recommended. Your condition will not improve faster, and you will be more susceptible to negative effects.
It could take a few weeks before you see the full effect of this medication. To receive the best benefit from this medication, take it daily. Take it at the same time every day to help you remember.
Even if you feel OK, keep taking this medication. Do not stop using this medication without first visiting your doctor. When this medicine is abruptly stopped, several conditions may worsen. Your dose may need to be gradually reduced.
If your illness does not improve or worsen, contact your doctor.
Side Effects:
It is possible to experience dizziness, light-headedness, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, weariness, excessive saliva/drooling, blurred vision, weight gain, constipation, headache, and difficulty sleeping. Tell your doctor or pharmacist right away if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
Dizziness and light-headedness can make you more vulnerable to falling. When rising from a sitting or sleeping posture, take it carefully.
Serious side effects include such as fainting, mental/mood changes (such as increased anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts), difficulty swallowing, restlessness (especially in the legs), shaking (tremors), muscle spasms, mask-like expression of the face, seizures, or trouble controlling certain urges (such as gambling, sex, eating, or shopping), or interrupted breathing while sleeping.
This medicine may cause your blood sugar to rise infrequently, which might lead to or exacerbate diabetes.
This medicine can cause tardive dyskinesia, which is a rare side effect. This condition may be permanent in some situations. If you experience any unexpected uncontrollable movements, contact your doctor straight away (especially on the face, mouth, tongue, arms, or legs).
Precautions:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to aripiprazole or if you have any other allergies before taking it. Inactive chemicals (such as propylene glycol) may be present in this product, causing allergic reactions or other issues. For further information, speak with your pharmacist.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any previous medical conditions you've had, especially: problems with blood flow in the brain (such as cerebrovascular disease, stroke), diabetes (including family history), heart problems (such as low blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, irregular heartbeat), nervous system problems (such as dementia, NMS, seizures), obesity, and low white blood cell count (including the history of low white blood cell count caused by infection).
This medicine may cause you to sweat less, increasing your risk of heatstroke. Avoid activities that can cause you to overheat, such as strenuous labor or exercise in hot weather and using hot tubs.
Seizures, sleepiness, dizziness, light-headedness, disorientation, tardive dyskinesia, swallowing issues, and other significant side effects may be more common in older persons. Drowsiness, dizziness, light-headedness, and confusion all make you more vulnerable to falling.
This medication should only be taken during pregnancy if necessary. Symptoms such as muscle stiffness or shakiness, drowsiness, feeding/breathing difficulties, or persistent crying may occur in babies born to moms who used this medicine during the last three months of pregnancy. Tell your doctor straight once if you observe any of these symptoms in your newborn, especially within the first month.
Do not stop taking this medication unless your doctor tells you to. Untreated mental/mood problems (such as bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia) can be dangerous. If you're planning a pregnancy, are pregnant, or suspect you might be, talk to your doctor right away about the advantages and dangers of taking this medication during pregnancy.
