What is Trajenta?

Trajenta is an antidiabetic medicine used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It contains the active ingredient Linagliptin. Trajenta works by increasing the production of the hormone insulin and reducing glucagon production of the hormone glucagon. This helps to manage the fasting and post meal blood sugar levels.

Trajenta is not for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Trajenta is prescribed alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines such as insulin, metformin, or sulphonylureas to treat type 2 diabetes.

Trajenta also reduced the risk of heart diseases, heart attack, and stroke.

Side Effects of Trajenta

Patients taking Trajenta may experience common side effects, including:

• Nasopharyngitis, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, and

• cough

• weight gain

• muscle, joint or back pain

• headache

• low blood sugar

Trajenta may cause serious side effects that require medical attention, including:

1. Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia: It may cause symptoms like sweating, confusion, blurred vision, weakness, and a fast heartbeat.
2. Serious allergic reactions, skin rash, blisters, swelling on the face, and trouble breathing.
3. Inflammation of the pancreas, severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
4. Swelling of hands, feet, or ankles

Contact your doctor right away if you notice any side effects of Trajenta that bother you.

How to use Trajenta?

Trajenta is available as film-coated tablets in 5 mg strength. Take a 5 mg tablet once a day with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow a tablet whole without breaking or chewing it. Always take the medicines at a fixed time to get maximum benefit.

If you forget a dose of medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose and take the next dose. You should not take two Trajenta tablets at the same time. Do not stop taking the medicine or change the dose without consulting your doctor.

You should also follow a healthy diet and exercise routine recommended by the doctors. Remember to check your blood sugar levels regularly.

Drug Interactions

Taking Trajenta with other medicines can cause adverse side effects or affect how well the medicine controls your blood sugar. Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, especially:

• Medications to lower blood sugar such as sulfonylurea and insulin
• Amiloride, Chlorthalidone
• Beclometasone, Betamethasone
• Antibiotics, antifungals, or HIV medications
• Anti-epileptic drugs such as carbamazepine, or
• phenobarbital

Safety Information

• Do not take Trajenta if you have allergies to any of the ingredients of this medicine.

• Before starting the treatment, tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions:

  • Kidney disease

  • Heart disease

  • Pancreas problems or pancreatitis

  • Joint pain or Arthritis

  • Skin reactions

  • Alcoholism

• Consult your doctor about the safety of Trajenta if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding women. It is not known if this medicine is harmful to babies.

• Avoid or limit alcoholic drink consumption while taking Trajenta, as it can reduce blood sugar levels.

• Trajenta is not approved for use in children younger than 18 years of age.

• Trajenta can decrease your blood sugar levels. Always carry sugar candies to control the symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, fainting, and lightheadedness.
