What is Trelegy Ellipta?

Trelegy Ellipta is an inhalation powder that contains fluticasone, umeclidinium, and vilanterol in doses of 100, 62.5, and 25 micrograms, respectively. Fluticasone is a steroid that suppresses the release of inflammatory chemicals in the body. Umeclidinium is a cholinergic antagonist. A bronchodilator, Vilanterol, is used to open up the airways. These drugs help to breathe by relaxing the muscles in the airways.

Uses of Trelegy Ellipta:

What is it used for?

It is used to treat adults with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), such as bronchitis and emphysema, and to prevent bronchospasm. Trelegy Ellipta is also used in adults to prevent and treat asthmatic symptoms, such as wheezing, and to improve breathing.

How does Trelegy Ellipta work?

In individuals with asthma or COPD, Trelegy helps by reducing lung inflammation and relaxing the airways.

Directions For Use:

• Use one inhalation of Trelegy Ellipta one time each day.
• Use Trelegy Ellipta at the same time each day.

For COPD:

The recommended Trelegy dosage for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one inhalation (puff) of Trelegy Ellipta 100/62.5/25 mcg once a day.

For Asthma:

One inhalation (puff) of Trelegy Ellipta once a day is the recommended dosage for asthma. Your doctor may prescribe Trelegy Ellipta 100/62.5/25 mcg or Trelegy Ellipta 200/62.5/25 mcg for this ailment. Their advice will be based on the severity of your asthma and if you've tried other asthma treatments before. 

Trelegy Ellipta should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Read all drug guides or instruction sheets and follow all guidelines on your prescription label. Your doctor may adjust your dose from time to time. Improper usage of this medicine can result in death or major heart adverse effects. It should be used at the same time every day and no more than once per 24 hours.

Doses Available As:

Each Trelegy Ellipta inhaler has 30 doses in total. Inside each inhaler are two foil strips containing blisters of the drug. One strip in each blister contains either 100 mcg* or 200 mcg** of fluticasone; the other strip in each blister contains 62.5 mcg of umeclidinium and 25 mcg of vilanterol.

Maximum Dose:

1 inhalation every 24 hours:

• If you take too much Trelegy Ellipta and experience any odd symptoms, such as worsened shortness of breath, chest pain, elevated heart rate, or shakiness, contact your healthcare provider or go to the nearest hospital emergency room straight away.
• Do not take any other anticholinergic medications for any reason. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if any of your other medications are anticholinergic/ long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) medicines.

What to do in an overdose of Trelegy Ellipta?

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents can call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include: shaking (tremor), chest pain, fast/irregular heartbeat, and seizures.

Always have a rescue inhaler with you to treat sudden symptoms. If you do not have a rescue inhaler, call your healthcare provider to have one prescribed for you. You may report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

What if you miss a dose of Trelegy Ellipta?

Use the medicine as soon as possible, but if your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose. Do not combine two doses at once. On any given day, do not utilize more than one inhalation.

Trelegy Ellipta Precautions:

If you are allergic to fluticasone, umeclidinium, or vilanterol, or if you have any additional allergies, tell your doctor before using this drug. Inactive components (such as milk proteins) may be present in this product, causing allergic reactions or other issues. This drug should also be used with caution by pregnant and lactating mothers. Always talk to your doctor about the risks and advantages.

• Thrush (Fungal infection).
• A Throat Infection Due To Candida Fungus.
• Throat Irritation.
• A Common Cold.
• Inflammation Of The Tissue Lining The Sinuses.
• Myalgia
• Headache
• Cough
• Joint Pain.

Trelegy Ellipta Drug Interactions:

Trelegy has potential interactions with alcohol, milk products, and other drugs.

Storage:

Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Do not stock in the bathroom. Throw away the inhaler 6 weeks after first removing it from the tray or when the dose counter reads zero, whichever comes first. Keep all the drugs away from children and pets in any case.
